Sanofi inaugurated the Charles Best Building in Toronto on September 16, 2026, a new influenza-vaccine manufacturing facility intended to support Canadian supply. The development is relevant to community and hospital/institutional pharmacists planning seasonal vaccine programs, although it does not change products or allocations for the current influenza season.

The company describes the project as a $925-million investment, supported by $415 million from the Government of Canada and $55 million from Ontario. Ontario says the 263,000-square-foot facility will provide manufacturing, formulation, filling and packaging capacity for Fluzone High-Dose and support about 300 jobs.

Sanofi says the facility is operational, but commercial production remains subject to regulatory approval. The company expects approval work in early 2027, with Canadian supply targeted for the 2027–2028 influenza season.

Practice guidance for pharmacists

  • Continue ordering and forecasting against current provincial and territorial influenza-program allocations; the announcement does not create immediate new supply.
  • Watch Health Canada, NACI and local public-health communications before changing product selection or patient eligibility workflows.
  • Keep high-dose influenza vaccine recommendations aligned with current jurisdictional criteria and product monographs.
  • Brief pharmacy teams that the facility represents future domestic capacity, not a new authorization or a current-season inventory commitment.
  • Maintain established cold-chain, inventory-rotation and incident-reporting procedures for all influenza vaccines.

The opening expands Canada’s domestic biomanufacturing infrastructure, but pharmacists should wait for regulatory and program-specific notices before incorporating any resulting supply into operational plans.
