The Ontario College of Pharmacists (OCP) has decided against changing pharmacy technician fees through its latest review. Its September 28–29, 2026 board report records the decision following consideration of affordability and regulatory finances. This is relevant to technicians and pharmacy managers in both community and hospital settings.

The important distinction: unchanged method, not a freeze

The decision materials, starting on page 275, specify retaining the existing Consumer Price Index (CPI) adjustment method. That means the outcome should not be described as a promise that future renewal invoices will stay at today's amount.

A broader examination of fee levels and structures is to follow the next strategic plan and updated financial forecasts. The current report does not announce a replacement payment arrangement. Source: OCP board report.

What this means for planning

For an individual technician, a decision about the fee-setting framework and the amount due on a particular invoice are different things. For an employer, reimbursement is a separate workplace matter. This news should not be used to promise a lower renewal cost or an employer benefit that has not been confirmed.

Practice guidance for pharmacists

For managers supporting technician registration, Pharmasist suggests:

  • Use the current official renewal notice when budgeting, rather than assuming the review produced a reduction.
  • Make any employer reimbursement policy and required documentation clear to staff.
  • Record payment deadlines from the registrant's actual notice.
  • Keep future fee-review announcements separate from current amounts payable.

The next substantive development will be the scope and timing of the broader review. Until then, the practical message is continuity of the framework, not a guaranteed freeze in fees.
